San Luis Obispo Council Members
San Luis Obispo County Supervisor Adam Hill

RE: Sunny Acres Site

Dear Council Member of San Luis Obispo:

As a born and raised local of San Luis Obispo, I admirer many of the small town organizations this city offers our community. I particularly enjoyed having the opportunity to see my son transition and develop with the help of Children’s Development and Rescores Center. It has helped me and my son, in our transition of being a single mom overcoming many challenges.

The Children’s Development and Recourse Centers Pre-school has given my child the necessary resources to thrive, become independent, enjoying the social aspects of friendships and those around him in a secured environment. This setting helps not only him but me as we’ll , not to be so anxious and at ease throughout the days allowing me to heal more within myself to become a better parent for my child.

I was very upsetting to find out that near my child school, the City Council had decided to put an eight bed compound mentally impaired patient building that would house individuals with substantially mental illness. Being one individual that has a mental disorder, I understand all too well the struggles and challenges. And, I am very sympathetic to the needs and care of these individuals. But I struggle to understand the purpose of placing this so close to neighborhoods and a pre-school. I really don’t feel this location is a balance for what needs to be placed in the surrounding area.

For the safety of the children, seniors and the family members that have placed those they love in these existing buildings of operation. I see a huge conflict of satisfying, comforting, and sense of security. Knowing an 80 bed compound is adjacent to their structures. I also see the trickledown effect of very dissatisfied active community members thinking over the safety of San Luis Obispo. I personally would not want to leave this area as I am the 3rd generation in this town. But, after finding out what is possible and how close this is to my Childs school. I can’t support the efforts of the Council Members.

They really need to re-think this idea and take a closer look at  the ripple effects it will take.

I will pull my child from the existing pre-school, and as I have informed other family members from that school… they also have thoughts of doing the same. Without the income we provide as a State funded School, what will happen to the workforce? San Luis Obispo, already struggles with having enough jobs for those that want to live here.

I really am saddened how our Simple, small town… Is losing its structure of what I remember it to be when I was younger. It’s starting to no longer resemble or feel like the Happiest City in America.
